Calf bound in the Racine style, spine with raised bands ornamented, red title and volume labels, triple linear borders framing the boards, gilt turn-ins on the edges, gilded edges. 19th-century binding in the taste of the 18th century. Spine rubbed, two joints cracked, two joints rubbed, small blotches on one board, the first leaves of vol. II slightly misbound. Good internal condition. One of the most luxurious editions of Racine’s Works, very prettily illustrated. The illustration consists of a portrait of the author by J. Daullé and 12 plates, engraved by Chevillet, Baquoy, Legrand, Flipart, Tardieu, Le Mire, Aliamet, Lempereur, Sornique after Jacques de Seve. Stamp of a Russian library at the foot of the title pages.
