Dial and Hands The dial is exceptionally clean and vibrant, showcasing a brilliant silver sunburst finish that remains in excellent condition with no significant spotting, staining, or visible damage. Applied faceted indices feature black center stripes, perfectly matched by the baton hour and minute hands. A distinctive blue printed minute track provides striking color accents, complementing the applied Rado anchor logo and the eye-catching red date numerals positioned at three o'clock. A simple sweep second hand completes the layout. Under high magnification, the hands reveal only very minor surface oxidation, presenting a well-preserved set that perfectly complements the dial furniture. Case and Crystal The stainless steel tonneau-shaped case presents honest vintage wear while retaining its preserved original geometry. The brushed upper surfaces and polished flanks display moderate surface scratches and handling wear consistent with age, yet the edges remain reasonably well-defined. A polished smooth bezel ring is integrated into the case design, showing light surface scratches consistent with the surrounding metal. The domed acrylic crystal is clear, exhibiting no major scratches, cracks, or crazing. On the side of the case, the crown is clearly signed with the Rado anchor logo and maintains good definition on its knurling. Movement Inside the case beats a gold-tone finished automatic movement, based on the reliable AS 1858 caliber. The mechanism features clean plates and bridges with no obvious corrosion or heavy scratching, while the rotor is proudly signed with the Rado name and anchor logo. Clear engravings note the twenty-five jewel count and Swiss origins. Recording -60-62s/day on the timegrapher. Running in operational condition. Maintains the authentic mechanical character of the watch. Strap The watch is fitted with a complementary black textured leather strap featuring white contrast stitching. The material shows light wear from previous use but remains in very usable condition, pairing handsomely with the vibrant dial elements. Condition Excellent vintage condition. The dial is wonderfully preserved, retaining its vibrant sunburst finish and clean printing without significant aging. The stainless steel case shows honest surface scratches and handling marks expected of a watch from this period, though it maintains its distinct tonneau silhouette and defined edges. The domed acrylic crystal is clear, and the signed crown operates as intended. The automatic movement is clean and visually well-kept. Timegrapher results show the watch running in operational condition, maintaining its authentic mechanical character. Dimensions The case measures 35 mm (excluding the crown). Remarks This Rado SpaceWing offers fantastic visual presence. The combination of the silver sunburst finish, the unusual blue minute track, and the red date display creates a highly attractive collector piece. Preserved in excellent vintage condition with its beautifully maintained dial, it offers a superb opportunity to acquire a distinctive and colorful 1970s timepiece. History Rado established a reputation in the mid-twentieth century for producing daring, forward-thinking designs that broke away from traditional watchmaking aesthetics. During the 1970s, the brand experimented heavily with distinct case geometries, colorful dial accents, and robust automatic movements. The SpaceWing line exemplifies this creative era, offering a futuristic tonneau silhouette paired with highly legible and visually engaging dials. Powered by dependable Swiss calibers like the AS 1858, these models were built to offer both striking style and daily reliability. Today, a well-preserved SpaceWing remains a sought-after choice for enthusiasts who appreciate the unique design language and vibrant character of 1970s horology.
