Work: The Condemnation of the Lovers (Romeo and Juliet) Artist: rafaelborja.art Technique: Acrylic on canvas Dimensions: 50×70 cm Condition: Excellent / Original, unpublished work Signature: Signed by the artist. Delivered with Certificate of Authenticity (COA). Description: «The Condemnation of the Lovers» offers a powerful contemporary re-reading of the classic myth of Romeo and Juliet. Departing from romantic portrayal and period archetypes, the artist rafaelborja.art relocates the tragedy to a purely visceral and psychological realm. Inspired by chiaroscuro and the dramatic lighting of Caravaggio’s tenebrism, the scene omits architectural or historical context to focus all narrative weight on the tension between the two faces depicted at life size. The impossibility of love is not narrated with words, but with the restrained violence of anonymous hands that seize, force, and hold the lovers’ heads, embodying judgment, family mandates, and the weight of social surroundings. Executed with a refined acrylic technique that achieves smooth tonal transitions and great anatomical realism, the painting has been protected and unified with a final layer of high-quality matte varnish, ensuring a velvety black background, glare-free and with a pronounced three-dimensional presence. A key piece in the artist’s evolution, ideal for collectors of contemporary figurative art and neobaroque aesthetics.
