Ralf Altrieth - Dumme Bilder 1 - XXXL

At first glance, Ralf Altrieth's painting seems to burst forth in a free, instinctive rush. Then the eye lingers—and gradually discovers a bustling universe where characters, creatures, and improbable forms seem to evolve with a freedom as purposeful as it is surprisingly definite. Nothing is fixed. Each detail contributes to a living composition that unfolds progressively with distance, light, and the time spent before it. In this universe, the boundary between abstraction and figuration remains intentionally unstable. Silhouettes appear, transform, sometimes disappear in favor of other presences. The gaze travels without ever tiring, guided from one discovery to the next. Seeing becomes an active, playful, almost physical experience. Beneath its apparent spontaneity, the work reveals a remarkable balance. The lines, colors, and rhythms interlace with a freedom perfectly mastered, giving birth to a scene where the imaginary seems to invent itself as it unfolds. But beyond its immediate energy, this painting settles durably into space. By its visual density. By its discreet humor. And by this rare ability to transform a wall into a territory of exploration, where every new look reveals a detail, a character, or a relationship that had previously gone unnoticed. From the crucible of improvisation, he conjures a world intact, made of spontaneous joys and strong impulses." — Dr. Friedhelm Häring, art historian and museum director "His gesture-and-color writing describes a world open to new voices and to experiments never attempted. His canvases and works on paper demonstrate that painting remains a major expression of the contemporary scene." — Laurent Puech, art historian and curator EMBALLAGE: The canvas is shipped rolled in a reinforced large-format tube (120 to 220 cm depending on the work), specially designed to ensure maximum protection during transport.
