He spent almost his entire life working in Olot’s first artisan workshop of religious imagery, founded in 1880 by the renowned landscape painters Joaquim and Marià Vayreda. Born to a carpenter father and a housewife mother, they lived as laborers. The painter, from a young age, showed great interest in painting, and at thirteen he joined as an apprentice in the Olot Christian Art workshop of the Vayreda brothers. An innovative workshop of enormous prestige due to the large number of artists who worked there for years. Ramon Duran began as an apprentice and spent fifty years there. He specialized in polychromy, gilding, and aging of carvings. Over the years, he trained himself and was recognized with the merit of master craftsman thanks to his refined technique and perfect finishes when painting the figures. Ramon Duran has spent his life painting landscapes, flowers, and everyday scenes, and his works are recognized in markets and auctions nationally and internationally. After his retirement in 1999, he continued painting saints and oil paintings and in an impressionist vein in his Olot workshop, while participating in fairs and art exhibitions. He has also served as a teacher, imparting his technique to beginners in the world of painting, both at the town hall and by teaching courses at the Olot Saints Museum, as well as students from the renowned Olot School of Art.
