Rare ex-voto to the Virgin of the Seven Sorrows – Oil on panel - Dated 1715 – Germanic School Interesting votive painting from the early 18th century, dated 1715, depicting the Virgin of the Seven Sorrows (Mater Dolorosa) holding the dead Christ on her knees, on a gilded background. In the lower part there is a remarkable scene of illness: four figures in period costumes surround a bedridden man, evoking a divine intervention sought during a serious illness. A long handwritten inscription in ancient German, dated 1715, accompanies this composition and seems to recount the circumstances of this event. Old painting on wooden panel, preserved in its black frame with inner gilded moulding. Probable origin: Southern Germany or Alpine region. Period: early 18th century, dated 1715. Condition: fine state of ancient conservation, with wear, cracking and small losses in the polychromy and in the frame, in keeping with its age. Rare testimony of popular devotion and votive practices of the 18th century, particularly interesting for the richness of its iconography and its period inscription. Photos are an integral part of the description of the objects and complement their presentation. Please examine them carefully before placing any bid. The item will be carefully packed and shipped with a tracking number, to ensure fast and secure delivery. Happy bidding
