Small wooden shrine Title : Rare small wooden shrine – Newar tradition, Nepal – 19th/20th century Description : Elegant small wooden shrine richly carved, attributed to the Newar tradition of the Kathmandu Valley, Nepal. The façade features a highly worked miniature architecture with tiered roof, geometric panels, central carved doors, ornate columns, vegetal motifs and pierced volutes. The décor testifies to remarkable woodcarving craftsmanship. The panels and architectural elements are abundantly decorated with geometric and floral motifs characteristic of the traditional art of the Kathmandu Valley. Beautiful brown patina, with signs of use and aging giving the whole an authentic and ancient appearance. * Origin: Nepal, probably Kathmandu Valley * Culture: Newar * Material: carved wood * Period: probably 19th – early 20th century * Condition: antique condition, traces of time.
