RAREST lot of 3 Herkimer Diamonds — 5.20 carats...

Exceptional lot of three natural Herkimer Diamonds, selected for the quality of their crystallization, their beautiful transparency, and above all the remarkable diversity of their architectures. Each presents its own morphology: one stands out with an exceptionally slender silhouette and very expressive terminations, the second with a more massive construction pierced by many internal planes, while the third has a compact and remarkably balanced geometry. Their transparency reveals true microscopic landscapes made of veils, healed fractures, inclusions, and growth planes that catch the light differently depending on the orientation. These structures are natural witnesses to the different stages of their formation and make each crystal absolutely unique. Bringing together three individuals so different in a homogeneous set of about 9 mm offers a remarkable glimpse into the complexity this crystallization can reach. With a total of 5.20 carats, each crystal weighs on average about 1.73 carats. These are extremely rare specimens of aterminated quartz, sought under the name of “Herkimer Diamonds” for their natural geometry and their characteristic glow. Characteristics - Collection name: Herkimer Diamonds - Number of specimens: 3 - Mineral nature: Natural double-terminated quartz - Origin: Pakistan - Total weight: 5.20 carats - Average weight: ≈ 1.73 carats per specimen - Dimensions: About 9 mm per specimen - Morphology: Natural double-terminated crystals - Color: Colorless to very slightly smoky depending on the area - Transparency: Transparent to locally translucent - Luster: Intense vitreous - Crystallization: Natural, complex and highly individualized - Terminations: Natural and well expressed - Internal structure: Rich in veils, growth planes, and natural inclusions - Condition: Natural specimens, uncut - Interest: Collecting mineralogy, crystallography, and macrophotography Three specimens with radically different architectures The rarity and interest of this set notably lie in the possibility of observing three very different expressions of the same crystallization. The first specimen features an especially elongated, almost architectural silhouette. Its large transparent faces converge toward strongly drawn terminations while its internal part concentrates numerous reflective structures. The central crystal on the other hand has a broader, more massive construction. Several large faces seem to visually superimpose through its transparency, creating a true depth effect. Its internal inclusions and natural fractures produce shifting reflections as the crystal is rotated under light. The third individual is distinguished by a more compact and symmetrical morphology. Its upper termination and its many geometric faces give it a particularly harmonious appearance, while its core houses a multitude of natural structures visible under magnification. A geometry shaped exclusively by natural growth The almost facet-like appearance of these crystals is particularly spectacular because their geometry is natural. The faces, edges, and terminations correspond to crystal growth itself. Under directional light, they behave like a sequence of small mirrors and can produce very intense white flashes. This characteristic largely explains the historical appeal of Herkimer Diamonds to collectors: some specimens give at first glance the impression of having been worked, whereas their morphology results directly from their natural formation. Extraordinary internal complexity Yet the observation does not stop at the surface. Thanks to their transparency, these three specimens allow viewing a multitude of internal structures, notably veils, natural fractures, inclusions, and different growth planes. Light passes through certain zones almost directly before being suddenly reflected by an internal structure. This succession of transparent and highly reflective zones creates a particularly interesting sense of depth. Under a loupe or in macrophotography, each thus becomes a true miniature mineralogical landscape. A geological story enclosed in each crystal These internal structures also tell part of the story of their formation. During growth, a crystal may experience different phases and changes in its environment. Some of these stages remain recorded as internal structures, inclusions, or fractures that evolved with the crystal. Each specimen is thus a totally individual piece: even when several crystals come from the same region, their internal architecture never exactly repeats. This is precisely what makes the comparative observation of this lot particularly interesting. The history of the name “Herkimer Diamond” The name “Herkimer Diamond” originates from the famous double-terminated crystals discovered in Herkimer County and surrounding areas in New York. Their exceptional transparency, vitreous luster, and naturally highly developed geometry earned them this historical comparison with diamond. Over time, these crystallizations have become iconic in collectible mineralogy. Comparable double-terminated crystals can be found in other regions of the world. That is why the historical name and geographic provenance should be distinguished, the origin of this lot being precisely indicated in its characteristics. A miniature ensemble that is particularly harmonious With an average dimension of about 9 mm, these three specimens form a compact yet extremely detailed set. Their total weight of 5.20 carats corresponds to about 1.73 carats per crystal, making the lot particularly homogeneous while preserving three clearly individualized morphologies. The contrast between their small size and the complexity of their structures is especially interesting: only a few millimeters conceal a remarkable amount of crystallographic detail. A lot for the collector Thus this lot brings together three natural double-terminated crystals, each with its own geometry, its own inclusions, and its own inner landscape. The combination of beautiful transparency, natural terminations, complex internal structures, and three different morphologies makes it a particularly interesting set for a specialized collection. With 5.20 carats in total, about 1.73 carats per specimen, and dimensions around 9 mm, this lot forms a remarkable miniature selection allowing appreciation of the diversity and complexity of these natural crystallizations. Three crystals, three architectures, and three growth histories united in a single collection lot. Terms and Conditions of Sale – MineralsOpals: At MineralsOpals, your satisfaction is a top priority.
