Raymond CAUCHETIER (1920–2021), Breathless, Jean-Luc Godard. The Kiss

A silver gelatin print, produced in 1998, signed in felt-tip pen by the artist and bearing copyright and title stamps on the reverse. Dimensions: 9.4 x 6.7 in This photo was taken at the corner of Quai Saint-Michel and Rue Xavier Privas (5th arrondissement). Before entering the Hôtel de Suède, Raymond Cauchetier asked the actors to kiss at this exact spot. It was his past experience with photo-romances that allowed him to invent the scene this way. Consequently, the photographs of 'The Kiss' and 'The Pre-kiss' on Quai Saint-Michel were taken off-camera.
