Recumbent Christ, Italian School, 17th Century

Descriptio Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 137 x 99 cm (150 x 112 cm with frame). Composition of the Lamentation over the Dead Christ, with the Virgin Mary, angels, and grieving putti. The figure of Christ, pale and lying on a white shroud, is the emotional center of the scene. The diagonal arrangement and the use of subdued lighting evoke an Italian Baroque sensibility, with particular attention to the expressiveness of grief and the tenderness of gestures. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed. The absence of any mention of restorations does not guarantee that none exist. You may request additional information before placing a bid. This does not affect the buyer’s statutory rights.
