In frame. Rare and evocative period print depicting the Sacred Face of Jesus, inspired by Veronica's veil kept in the Basilica of Saint Peter in the Vatican. The image shows the face of Christ with closed eyes and the marks of the Passion, pressed on a shroud supported by angels. At the bottom it bears the Latin inscription: "Vera Effigies Sacri Vultus Domini Nostri Jesu Christi, quae Romae in Sacrosancta Basilica S. Petri in Vaticano religiosissime asservatur et colitur" (True image of the Sacred Face of Our Lord Jesus Christ, which in Rome in the Most Holy Basilica of St. Peter in the Vatican is religiously preserved and venerated). The work features at the bottom the important red wax seal of the Basilica of Saint Peter (with the crossed keys and the papal tiara), which guarantees its contact with the original relic (touched objects). Calcographic print on canvas dating to the second half of the 1800s (circa 1880). Dimensions 36.5x27 cm Dimensions with frame 46x37 cm. Good/very good overall condition. Light marginal browning.
