Reliquary of the Holy Cross – Lignum Crucis – Italy, 19th century Reliquary in gilded alloy, presumably bronze, Italian workmanship of the 19th century The architectured and completely openwork mount presents a rich Baroque decoration of angels in relief, scrolls and foliage, arranged around a central theca. Relic of the Holy Cross The central theca contains a relic of the Holy Cross (Lignum Crucis), consisting of two fragments of wood arranged in the shape of a cross on their ancient support, under glass. On the reverse, the theca retains its ecclesiastical seal in red wax bearing arms, still in place.
