Damasus I (Rome or Guimarães, circa 305 – Rome, 11 December 384) was the 37th pope of the Catholic Church, venerated by him as a saint. The first Pontifex Maximus after the abdication of Emperor Gratian, he was pope from 1 October 366 until his death. The reliquary does not contain human remains.
