One of three large paper copies on Chine paper. Hors Commerce. An elegant and satirical study of love, desire and social convention set in a château in Touraine. First edition. In-12, blue half-chagrin with marbled boards. Five ribbed spine, with gilt titles (slightly rubbed only). Original colour illustrated wrappers by Pierre Bonnard, preserved. With an nice dedication from the author to Marcel Boulenger to the half title: "To the beautiful and charming writer of Page and La Croix de Malte". The typographical address at the bottom of the contents table is: 25-202. - Tours, Impr. E. Arrault et Cie. Only One of 3 copies on China paper, hors commerce, the rarest issue, from a total of only 18 large-paper copies (3 on China, 3 on Japan, 12 on vellum), justified with the publisher’s stamp. Untrimmed pages. Internally clean and tidy, with a little darkening to the pages only. Some small edgewear to the rear blanks. A very nice copy. Talvart & Place, I, 7 A. Boulenger was a prolific novelist and Olympic fencer. He obtained this inscribed copy towards the beginning of his career. 302 pages. 20 x 16 cm. This is one of only three copies printed on China paper, never offered for sale, and given by the author to a friend. La Leçon d’amour dans un parc is a playful, elegant pastiche of 18th-century gallantry The first edition was published by La Revue Blanche, the great avant-garde review of the 1890s Pierre Bonnard designed the colour cover. He had been closely linked to the review since his famous 1894 poster for it. Boylesve inscribed the book to Marcel Boulenger (1873–1932), novelist, journalist and Olympic fencer at the 1900 Paris Games:
