Original advertising poster (offset lithography) dating from 1948. Our last copy in this top condition! 'A visit to the Antwerp Zoo / The outing of this year / Unique in the country ! 'Unparalleled aquarium - rich and new collections - natural history museum - beautiful courtyards' Design: René van Poppel (as listed at the bottom left of the border) Dimensions: 84 cm high x 61 cm wide Print: Reclamestudio Van Poppel. Condition A: integral and pristine (see photos) Shipping: rolled in a sturdy tube with Bpost track & trace or Bpost International. Lithographer/affichist René Van Poppel Beside the iconic looking-back polar bear against a blue background, René Van Poppel also drew several other striking Zoo posters. Against the yellow-ochre background of a simplified city plan, at the location of the zoo a large cut-out was made, in which we see an impression of the camel enclosure and in the background the reptile building. A large black arrow immediately draws attention to this 'cartouche'. For the first time real advertising slogans are used: 'The outing of this year - Unique in the country! - A visit to the Antwerp Zoo'. This is a remarkable outlier in Van Poppel's body of work, who had the Zoo as an important client. (Free adaptation from 'Kom nog eens af' - 150 years of posters for the Zoo: catalog for the equally titled exhibition within the framework of Antwerp Cultural Capital 1993).
