Replica of an Ancient Greek Terracotta Eros riding a dolphin - 27 cm

Wonderful terracotta of an Eros riding a dolphin Aged with ancient techniques, patinated and antiqued! The connection with the sea: In classical antiquity, the motif of Eros/Cupid riding a dolphin was a symbol rich in positive connotations. The dolphin, a psychopomp animal (that accompanies souls) and friend of sailors, represented salvation, protection at sea, and regeneration. The love metaphor: The union between the god of love and the marine creature also symbolized the universal power of Eros, capable of ruling not only land but also the depths of the waters, embodying the triumph of good over evil. Terracotta style: Unlike Roman or later Renaissance representations (where Cupid appears as a plump putto), the Paestum statuette reflects the Greek-classical style, showing Eros with a youthful, slender body and wings. Only for true archaeology enthusiasts. Maestro Rosario Muni Centuripe, Sicily, Italy
