Richard Ginori - Dinner service (6) - Porcelain - Colandine

A rare late 19th-century dinner service produced by the Ceramica Richard Company, which from 1896 became Richard Ginori, and decorated with a refined motif inspired by English ceramics called "Colandine". The name Colandine derives from an English manufactory that spread this motif, probably the South Wales Pottery of Llanelly, active in the 19th century. The design enjoyed great fortune and was adopted by numerous European manufactories, including Italian ones. The subject depicts a fantastical oriental-inspired garden, with pagoda-like architectures, lush vegetation, flowers and water. It fits into the taste for exotic images that characterized much European production in the 19th century, influenced by the spread of English ceramics decorated with Oriental landscapes. Light signs of craquelure on some of the plates. Mark impressed SCR and the name of the pattern "Colandine".
