Rare Richard Ginori Table Service Mondovi - Linea "Paola" ", Decor "Anemoni" - Fine Ceramics Entirely Hand-Painted - Complete for 12 People - 41 Pieces (1950s/1960s) In this auction an extraordinary, complete and lively vintage table service signed by the historic Italian manufacturer Richard Ginori Mondovi, dating from the mid-20th century (circa 1950s/1960s). The service belongs to the famous "Paola" line and flaunts the iconic and highly sought-after floral decoration "Anemoni". Each individual piece is a unique ceramic work of art: the floral motif is entirely executed and hand-painted underglaze, characterized by magnificent chromatic brilliance in cobalt blue, intense strawberry red, and ochre shades. The design recalls the unmistakable stylistic imprint and the joie de vivre introduced into the manufactory by Gio Ponti. Finding such a numerous lot, complete for a full 12 place settings and enriched with exceptional coordinating serving pieces, represents an absolute rarity on the modern art and collectibles market. As visible in the images, the original glaze’s brightness remains intact and the colors are vivid, testifying to a set kept with great care over the years. Being genuine hard-paste earthenware from the period, the pieces show the classic elegant signs of time that certify its antiquity: • Natural crazing: The surface of several elements shows the typical, fascinating underglaze spider-web crackle (craquelure), a physiological phenomenon for old ceramic that enhances its vintage charm. • Signs of use: The vast majority of the 41 pieces are intact and defect-free. To be fully transparent for collectors, only minor edge wear on the bottoms (the base support, thus not visible when the plate is on the table) is noted on just 3 or 4 pieces. There is also a slight and small chips on the spout of the jug and a thin era crack on a single small plate. None of these details detracts from the service’s splendid overall aesthetic impact during mise en place.
