Gerrit Rietveld – “Kratstoel Laag 2/3” / Children’s Crate Chair Gerrit Thomas Rietveld (1888–1964) Kratstoel Laag 2/3 Model / Children’s Crate Chair Original design: 1934 Official licensed re-edition by Rietveld by Rietveld Serial number: CCLS 00376 Production: circa 2004–2010 An officially licensed Rietveld by Rietveld edition of Gerrit Rietveld’s iconic Kratstoel (Crate Chair) in the smaller 2/3-size version, also known as the Children’s Crate Chair. The chair bears its original metal identification plaque, marked “made by RIETVELD BY RIETVELD”, “CCLS 00376” and “Kratstoel laag 2/3 model”, together with the Gerrit Th. Rietveld copyright notice. Constructed in wood and displaying the characteristic geometric, slatted construction of Rietveld’s celebrated 1934 design. The chair is in very good condition, with only minor signs of age and use, as visible in the photographs. It has always been kept indoors. Dimensions: approximately 42 × 38 × 46–47 cm (H × W × D). A distinctive and collectible example of twentieth-century Dutch design, particularly appealing to collectors of Gerrit Rietveld, De Stijl and Dutch modernist furniture.
