All auctions / Ethnographical / Ritual dance puppet. Salampasu people, Democratic Republic of Congo

Descriptio Wood and plant fiber. Dimensions: 45 cm. Articulated figure used in ritual dances of the Salampasu people, carved from wood and dressed in plant fiber elements, with a conical headdress and a mukinka-type frontal mask. This type of puppet was adopted from Chokwe models and was associated with ceremonial contexts linked to warrior societies and protection rituals. The piece has a strong symbolic charge and retains its dynamic and expressive character, constituting a remarkable example of performative sculpture from Central Africa. Lot in international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipping: no import duties apply within the EU. An export permit from the country of origin may be required. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed. The absence of any mention of restorations does not guarantee that none exist. You may request additional information before placing a bid. This does not affect the buyer’s statutory rights.
