Robert B. Dance (American, b. 1934), Corn Cob Sketch

Graphite on paper, signed "R. B. Dance" at lower right, matted and framed under glass. Sight size 11 3/4 x 20 in.; Frame dimensions 19 5/8 x 27 5/8 in. Robert Bartlett Dance is an acclaimed maritime artist known for his detailed depictions of boats and coastal landscapes. Born in Tokyo, Japan, he graduated from the Philadelphia Museum College of Art and established his studio in Kinston, North Carolina. His work has been exhibited extensively, including at the Maritime Gallery at Mystic Seaport, the Smithsonian Institution, and the North Carolina Maritime Museum. In 1991, the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art presented a twenty-year retrospective of his work. Dance has received numerous awards from the North Carolina Watercolor Society, and his paintings are represented in the collections of the North Carolina Museum of Art and the Mississippi Museum of Art. Good estate condition; not examined out of the frame.
