Robert Morris 1795 ALS

Scarce three-page autograph letter signed by Robert Morris, dated July 23, 1795, written across a single folded sheet. Morris, known as the "Financier of the American Revolution," was a signer of the Declaration of Independence, Articles of Confederation, and the U.S. Constitution. Written during the height of his western land speculation, the letter discusses mortgages securing a $100,000 debt, negotiations involving tens of thousands of acres, Genesee River lands in western New York, Pennsylvania properties, government surveys, and Morris's belief that frontier lands would appreciate as settlement expanded. The correspondence offers exceptional insight into the ambitious land ventures that ultimately led to his financial collapse and imprisonment for debt just three years later. An important Revolutionary-era manuscript from one of America's most influential Founding Fathers. Estimate $1,000 - $2,000
