Coin: Silver Denarius. Culture: Roman Republic. Monetary Magistrate: L. Aemilius Lepidus Paullus (62 B.C.). Obverse: Veiled and diademed head of the goddess Concordia looking to the right. The perimeter legend PAVLLVS LEPIDVS CONCORDIA is perfectly visible and stands out for its excellent high relief. Reverse: Military trophy at the center. On the right, the togated figure of the consul Lucius Aemilius Paulus. On the left, three captive figures: King Perseus of Macedon and his two sons (commemorating Rome’s victory at the Battle of Pydna). At the bottom (exergue), the legend PAVLLVS. Legal tender or not: Not legal tender. Damage: Light wear from circulation on the highest points. The piece stands out for its magnificent centering and a spectacular dark iridescent patina (known as 'cabinet toning' or monetary patina), highly valued in numismatics.
