In earlier times, people loved to play with meanings in jewellery, expressed through the shape as well as the materials of a piece of jewellery. This gold curb bracelet features four decorative links set with sky-blue turquoise in the middle. The oval links are decorated with an openwork clover leaf design. One might wonder why the clover leaves are not shaped like four-leaf clovers - but the answer lies in the floral language of the time, which also elevated the three-leaf clover to a special symbol. In the language of flowers, which was recorded in book form by Anna Burke as early as 1856, the white clover meant "Think of me". This meaning seems to have been very clear to the goldsmith who made the piece, as he chose turquoise as the setting: "forget-me-not" is its meaning in gemstone language, in reference to the flowers of the same color. This romantic piece of jewellery was probably made in Great Britain in the c. 1900s and it was from there that it found its way to us.
