Isn't it wonderful when pieces of jewellery tell little stories and convey more than just shine and glitter through their gemstones? Since the beginning of jewellery history, gemstones have not only been regarded as precious and beautiful materials, but also as carriers of special meanings. Even in the Book of Revelation, the gates of the heavenly city of Jerusalem are made of very specific stones, and in classical antiquity, precious stones were given their place in the pantheon: the pearl naturally belonged to Venus, the goddess of love, and the shimmering opals were regarded as the tears of joy of Zeus, the father of the gods. Things became particularly romantic in the 19th century when the "gemstone language" emerged. Suddenly, colours could be used to convey feelings and every piece of jewellery became a secret messenger. Persian turquoise was an excellent way of expressing feelings. With its light blue colour, it reminded people of forget-me-not flowers, which was perfect for messages of love that you didn't want to convey too subtly. It thus became a popular companion in pieces of jewellery - such as this bracelet, probably made in the United States around 1910 and discovered by us in London. Six oval cabochon-cut turquoises weighing a total of around 2.50 ct are set in sweeping links of warm, gleaming 10-karat gold. You can just imagine the first owner: in love, a little nervous, but determined to choose the right gift. It was certainly a romantic gift the first time - and who knows, maybe you will simply continue to write the story of this bracelet?
