Dear Bidders, You are bidding on sculptural black-and-white porcelain group from Rosenthal’s Oasis collection, designed by Elsa Fischer-Treyden and dating to around the 1980s. Its bold, organic forms reflect a modernist design aesthetic. The white vase has a glossy finish, while the black vase and matching shallow bowl combine glossy surfaces with a satin-matte glazed finish; the matte areas are not bisque porcelain. SOME GENERAL INFORMATIONS: Fischer-Treyden (1901–1995), a Russian-born German designer, played a key role in Rosenthal’s design development from 1953 onwards. Rosenthal is one of Germany’s most renowned porcelain manufacturers, celebrated for collaborations with leading designers and for blurring the line between applied art and functional design. This set is a fine example of German modernist studio production and will appeal to collectors of Rosenthal and post-war decorative arts.
