Rosenthal - Jan van der Vaart

Dear Bidders, You are bidding on a striking set of three sculptural black porcelain objects by Rosenthal studio-line: the Nautica vase and Taurus vase, designed by Jan van der Vaart, together with a tall Pianta candle holder by Lino Sabattini. From Rosenthal’s Porcelaine Noire series, the pieces combine contrasting matte and high-gloss surfaces. Their bold, organic forms reflect the modernist design of the 1980s and early 1990s. SOME GENERAL INFORMATIONS: Jan van der Vaart (1931–2000), a highly influential 20th-century Dutch ceramist was known for his abstract-geometric and constructivist work. His designs often emphasize clarity of form, refined proportions and minimalist sophistication. Lino Sabatini ( 1925-2016 ), a renowned Italian designer, was known for his sculptural and fluid forms – a hallmark of organic modernism and mid-century European design. His creations for Rosenthal embody the perfect blend of Italian artistic vision and German porcelain mastery. Rosenthal is one of Germany’s most renowned porcelain manufacturers, celebrated for collaborations with leading designers and for blurring the line between applied art and functional design. This set is a fine example of German modernist studio production and will appeal to collectors of Rosenthal and post-war decorative arts. These vases embody a timeless blend of art and utility, making them not only functional objects but also collectible design pieces. The clean surfaces and dynamic silhouettes are characteristic of van der Vaart’s architectural approach to porcelain design.
