[ROSSANT (André de)]. The Manners, Temperaments, and Behaviors of Henry of Valois, Truthfully Depicted from His Birth. Paris: published by Anthoine le Riche, 1589. A scathing pamphlet portraying King Henry III as a tyrant: as evidenced by the favor he has always shown to heretics and infidels [...], assisting and meddling in acts of magic, entering monasteries and convents to rape the nuns, and imposing numerous oppressive taxes and levies on his people (p. 65). Barbier attributes the work to André de Rossant, a 16th-century poet and jurist from Lyon known for his passion for anagrams. Several passages formerly underlined in pen.
