A Royal Doulton glazed earthenware character jug titled The Chef, model number D7103. The piece features polychrome hand-painted decoration with a high-gloss finish. The subject is a smiling male chef wearing a classic white toque and a white double-breasted jacket accented with a dark green patterned neckerchief. The handle is intricately modeled in the form of a wooden mixing spoon and a checkered kitchen towel draped with a string of garlic bulbs. The base bears the official Royal Doulton factory mark in black print, featuring a lion standing atop a crown, surrounded by the words Made in England and Royal Doulton England. The mark also includes a four-lobed interlocking symbol. A faded design registration stamp is visible to the left of the primary mark, and a small hand-painted letter D is located to the right.
