Royal Doulton - Tea cup set for 6 (21) - Ceramic

Complete set of 21 Royal Doulton Kingsware pieces, produced in England in the early 1930s. The Kingsware series is recognizable for its characteristic glossy finish in a molasses brown tone (Rockingham glaze) and for its polychrome reliefs in ochre, yellow and olive green, with figures and scenes of traditional and literary character. The pieces also feature decorative inscriptions under the glaze. The lot stands out especially for its complete six-place service composition, also retaining the teapot, the milk jug and the sugar shaker with their original lids. Lot composition * 1 large teapot with original lid, decorated with the character Sairy Gamp and the inscription “The cup that cheers.” * 1 large milk jug, decorated with a relief scene of a group of drinkers toasting in a tavern. * 1 two-handled sugar shaker with original lid, decorated with the knight motif. * 6 teacups, with the relief of Sairy Gamp. * 6 saucers for teacups, with the inscription “The cup that cheers.” * 6 dessert or side plates, of which: * 3 feature the Sairy Gamp motif and the inscription “The cup that cheers.” * 3 feature the knight motif and the inscription “Come and welcome.” Marks The bases bear the Royal Doulton factory marks corresponding to this period, including the inscription “Made in England” and the Royal Doulton crest. The teapot base also bears the letter “G,” corresponding to the artisan/mold mark. Condition Overall condition of the set is good, with the glaze retaining a bright, even sheen. Two small impact marks are present, both located on the edges: * a small chip on the edge of one of the teacup saucers; * a small chip on the edge of one of the dessert plates with the inscription “Come and welcome,” which slightly affects the initial letter “C.” No cracks or restorations are observed on the teacups, teapot, milk jug or sugar shaker. The photographs show the flaws and the overall condition of the pieces. It is recommended to review the images carefully before bidding. An especially interesting set for Royal Doulton Kingsware collectors, both for its number of pieces and for preserving a complete six-person service together with its main serving pieces.
