Rudy barret - Behind the Frame - XL

Behind the Frame – Oil on canvas work by Rudy Barret – Limited Edition XL ⸻ THE WORK She turns her back on us, yet seems entirely aware of our gaze. In Behind the Frame, Rudy Barret distorts the codes of the classic portrait by placing a contemporary female figure at the heart of an imposing antique frame. The face disappears. Identity fades. What remains is only the posture, the skin, the light and this strange impression of watching a work that would have left its era. The contrast between the model's nudity, the rigidity of her posture and the gilded ornamentation of the frame creates a deliberately unsettling composition. The white drapery, halted at the bottom of the body, subtly recalls the fabrics of academic paintings. Is she in front of the painting, inside it, or has she herself become the painting? ⸻ LOT DETAILS Title: Behind the Frame Artist: Rudy Barret Edition: Limited to 20 copies (1/20) Dimensions: 46 × 66 cm (3 cm white border included) Support: Fine Art print on premium canvas Framing: Sold without frame or chassis — the frame depicted is an integral part of the artwork Delivery: Secure shipment in a rigid protective tube Certificate of authenticity: Supplied exclusively by email ⸻ THE ARTIST'S STATEMENT I wanted to play with a very simple question: at what moment does a person we look at become a work of art? The fact that she is turned away from us was essential. Without a face, there is no longer a true portrait or imposed identity. The viewer is free to imagine who she is and why she is there. The antique frame deliberately creates a confusion between contemporary photography and classical painting. Behind the Frame speaks as much about the one who is being looked at as about the one who looks. ⸻ ABOUT THE ARTIST Rudy Barret develops an artistic universe blending photography, digital composition and thorough retouching. His creations regularly juxtapose contemporary elements with more classical references, playing with eras, symbols and codes of representation. His work favors compositions that are immediately legible while deliberately leaving a part of mystery and interpretation to the viewer.
