RUSSIAN ICON (Russia, late 18th – early 19th century) Saint Nicholas

Descriptio Icon with a gold background. Dimensions: 36 × 30 cm. The work depicts Saint Nicholas of Myra, known as Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker, one of the most venerated saints in the Orthodox tradition for the numerous miracles attributed to him. The saint is shown in half-length, with his right hand raised in a gesture of blessing while holding the Gospel in his left, following the iconographic model widespread in Byzantine art and widely adopted by Russian workshops. Dressed in episcopal vestments and with the stern expression characteristic of his iconography, Saint Nicholas embodies the role of protector and spiritual mediator, especially invoked by travelers, sailors, and the faithful in times of need. The gold background reinforces the sacred and timeless character of the image, a common element in icon painting intended for private or liturgical devotion. Lot in international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipping: no import duties apply within the EU. An export permit from the country of origin may be required.
