Specimen composed of quartz, rutile, and hematite. This is a classic combination, mainly extracted in the famous Novo Horizonte area in Bahia, Brazil. The Quartz Matrix Components form the transparent and smoky crystal base of the piece. Rutile is visible as acicular needles of a metallic yellow-gold color, arranged radially (the so-called "rutile stars"), and hematite represents the base as a dark gray or metallic black, with a lamellar (blade-like) structure, from which rutile crystals originate and grow by epitaxy.
