Saint Augustin - Les Confessions - 1ª Ed

Saint Augustin - Les Confessions - 1ª Ed

Description: Extraordinary complete two-volume set of the Confessions by Saint Augustine, published in the famous and prestigious Collection des Universités de France (Association Guillaume Budé) in 1925 (printing completed at the beginning of 1926 by Louis Bellenand's typography). The text features the renowned philological care of Pierre de Labriolle with the original Latin text on the facing page and a French translation. This is the EXAMPLE NUMBER 28 of the exclusive and extremely limited tirage de tête, printed in only 200 copies worldwide. THE EXCLUSIVE ADVANTAGES OF THIS LOT: - Exceptional condition: The volumes are in an extraordinary state of preservation, comparable to New, with no flaws either internally or externally. - Absolute premium paper: Printed on superb Lafuma pure paper (Voiron). After a century, the pages remain immaculate and brilliantly white, completely free of foxing, stains, or yellowing, thanks to the fiber purity without acids. - Untrimmed sheets: The copy has wide margins with the original untrimmed sheets of typography, not trimmed, a highly sought-after feature by bibliophiles. - Original bindings preserved: Inside the hard binding, the iconic original orange flexible covers of the Budé series are fully and perfectly safeguarded, intact and crease-free. - Prestige serial number: Copy No. 28, clearly printed at the press in Volume II (as per editorial practice of the era to ensure set unity). Such low numbers (the first 30 copies) are the rarest and most coveted on the market. - Artistic binding: Magnificent half-binding from the period in leather with boards in fine hand-decorated paper with a refined clouded/toned effect. The spine is beautifully decorated with the title and the emblem of the Mystic Wolf surmounted by the Cross. Page count: - Volume I: 242 pages (including the extensive historical introduction and the first books of the work). - Volume II: 216 pages (including the remaining books, the indices, and the justification of the tirage). - Total: 458 pages across 2 complete volumes.
