Saint Dominic of the Calzada - Silver - 1750-1800 - Kiss of Peace

Rare silver Peace Kiss – Probably “AMAR” refers to the goldsmith Martin Amaro, based in Seville. Exceptional Spanish silver melted, engraved and chased Peace Kiss, attributed to Seville workshops in the 18th century. This type of liturgical object was used during the celebration of the Mass to symbolically convey the gesture of peace between the faithful. The iconography of the piece corresponds to Saint Domingo de la Calzada, recognizable by his traditional attributes — the cock and the hen — linked to his famous Jacobean miracle. The side coats of arms are attributed to Don Alonso de Castilla y Zúñiga, bishop of the diocese from 1523 to 1541, a direct descendant of King Pedro I of Castile. Comparable pieces are today preserved in several Spanish institutions, notably the Museo Nacional de Artes Decorativas in Madrid and the Museu Marès in Barcelona. Dimensions: height 15.5 cm; width 10.5 cm; Weight: 508 g Very good condition, with a strong presence and patina consistent with its age.
