San Andrés, Spanish School, 18th Century

Descriptio Oil on canvas. Dimensions 143 x 98 cm. The composition depicts Saint Andrew, identified by the saltire cross he firmly holds, as he advances with an eloquent gesture and upward gaze, reinforcing the devotional character of the scene. The saint appears enveloped in ample cloths of ochre and blue tones that lend dynamism and depth to the composition, contrasting with a background landscape that hints at episodes of his martyrdom. The work shows evidence of restoration interventions, perceptible in some areas of the painted surface, without detracting from the original expressive power. The frame, possibly from an altarpiece, underscores the liturgical and ornamental function of the piece. The treatment of color and the composition reflect late Baroque models, linking the work to the Spanish religious tradition of the 18th century. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed. The absence of any mention of restorations does not guarantee that none exist. You may request additional information before placing a bid. This does not affect the buyer’s statutory rights.
