San Francisco, California. $5 1902 Plain Back. Fr. 609. Brotherhood

San Francisco, California. $5 1902 Plain Back. Fr. 609. Brotherhood NB. Charter #13016. PMG Very Fine 20. Among a small number of National Banks organized through the efforts of the labor movement during the 1920s. The Brotherhood National Bank of San Francisco (Charter# 13016) is arguably overshadowed by a better-known counterpart from Cleveland, but overall this bank remains fairly scarce in numismatic terms especially by the standards of San Francisco. Here the National Bank Note Census records a comparatively paltry total of 65 notes between two titles with only 26 recorded on the bank's first title which lingered until 1929 when the unions sold their institutional stake and the bank became the City National Bank which was ultimately liquidated by the Pacific National Bank (Charter# 12579) in 1932. Estimate: $400 - $600. Click here for certification details from PMG.
