Magnificent patinated bronze sculpture representing an ancient warrior (Sparta / Ancient Greece) on a white marble pedestal. Description detail: This superb statuette depicts a Greek warrior or hoplite in a dynamic and heroic stance, about to throw his javelin. The attributes, the headdress (crested helmet) and the musculature recall classical iconography of Greek statuary and the famous representations of the Spartan king Leonidas. Manufacturing features and details: • Materials: The subject is cast in solid bronze with very nice density (weight around 3.5 kg), resting on a rectangular base in white marble (Carrara marble type). • Original accessories: The shield (adorned with a relief depicting a Gorgon mask or a lion surrounded by pearls) and the javelin are removable, which attests to the care taken in the making of this collectible piece. • Fixing: The bronze is anchored to the marble by its original iron threaded rods visible under the base. Condition: The object is in a beautiful overall aesthetic state and features a magnificent patina browned by time. On the back of the base, natural and old oxidation of the fixing screws’ iron is noted, evidencing the piece’s age and authenticity. Some normal, minor signs of use related to age.
