Balinese sculpture in polychromed and gilded wood – Divinity with Naga – Indonesia, early 20th century Description of the lot : Superb traditional Balinese sculpture in solid teak wood (Djati) carved, polychromed and enhanced with gilding, depicting a divinity seated holding a Naga (mythical serpent). The divinity is crowned with a complex (Candi) headdress richly carved, dressed in traditional attire and bears an expressive look highlighted by relief eyes and a fine mustache. The reverse shows sculpted hair cascading down the back. Origin : Bali, Indonesia. Era : First half of the 20th century (circa 1920–1940). Materials : Solid teak wood (Djati), original pigments, traces of gilding. Dimensions : Height 44.2 cm × Width 21.7 cm × Depth 16 cm. Weight : 3.097 kg. Condition report : Good overall condition upon discovery with its original polychromy and gilding well preserved. Note a natural transversal crack related to the drying of the wood (face, torso and base), as well as a beautiful patina of use coherent with its age, reinforcing the authenticity and character of the piece.
