All auctions / Sculptures / Sculpture, Coppia di Atlanti (Telamoni) intagliati. - 70 cm - Walnut

Imposing pair of Atlantes (Telamons) dating from the era in walnut wood, crafted around the late 19th to early 20th century in Italian Neoclassical / Neorenaissance style. The two male figures display remarkable plastic strength and expressiveness, with clearly defined anatomical musculature. The flat, unfinished back shows authentic signs of gouge marks from the period cabinetmaker, confirming that the pieces were originally conceived as decorative side supports or pilasters for a monumental fireplace or for an important salon furnishing. They feature ancient wooden dowels inserted on the chest and torso, originally used for assembly or to repair natural cracks in the trunk. The sculptures are structurally sound and in good general conservation, with a beautiful warm glossy patina and old, now completely inactive, historic woodworm holes. Dimensions of each sculpture: - Height: 70 cm - Width: 22 cm - Depth: 20 cm - Total weight of the pair: 9 kg. Curated and insured shipping
