Entirely handmade in Murano, this sculpture encapsulates in a few essential lines the timeless elegance of the Venetian gondola. The gondola, in massive glossy black glass, is shaped by hand into a soft, continuous curve that arches like a crescent. At the prow the characteristic iron stands out, rendered with thin raised ribs that recall its famous “teeth”; at the stern the line ascends and closes in a refined curl. The gondola rests in balance on a crystal cube worked with the pulegoso technique: a dense pattern of air bubbles deliberately created in the glass gives it a living, tactile look, like lagoon water. The contrast between deep black and the transparency of the crystal enhances the purity of the form. Pulegoso is one of the historic techniques of Murano glass, made famous in the twentieth century and still highly loved by collectors for its unique character: no two bubble patterns are ever the same. A sober and refined object of art, perfect to elegantly furnish a bookshelf, a desk or a shelf, or as a precious keepsake of Venice.
