Scuola di Adriaen Brouwer (1605–1638) - Scena d'osteria

Refined and evocative oil painting on oak panel depicting a typical genre scene of the Flemish-Dutch school of the 17th century, fully attributable to the expressive realm of Adriaen Brouwer (1605–1638), renowned master of popular realism of the Golden Age. The composition portrays the intimate, smoky interior of a tavern of the period: in the foreground, a group of patrons around a table is playing tric-trac (the old backgammon), accompanied by beer mugs and ceramic goblets. On the right, other patrons converse and smoke near the hearth, creating a vibrant composition rich in everyday narration. Era: 17th Century. Technique: Oil on panel. Realm: Flemish/Dutch School, circle/follower of Adriaen Brouwer. Support: The painting is executed on a solid wooden panel (the evident wood grain typical of the period is visible on the back). Period plaque: The frame bears an elegant gilded metal plaque inscribed in Dutch with the words "school van A. Brouwer". Dimensions: - Painting only (panel): 25 x 31 cm - With frame: 39 x 45 cm - Frame thickness: 3 cm The painting presents in generally good conservation condition compatible with the period (17th century). It shows a natural and pleasant uniform craquelure across the painting surface, testifying to its authenticity and age. (The frame is provided as a complimentary decorative element accompanying the work).
