Seiko 7A48-7020 Moonphase Chronograph – Vintage Quartz – Gold Plated – 1980s A distinctive vintage Seiko Moonphase Chronograph, reference 7A48-7020, dating from the 1980s and combining one of Seiko’s most interesting early quartz chronograph movements with an elegant classical dial design. The watch features a white dial with multiple registers, Roman numeral details and a highly decorative moonphase display at 12 o’clock. The balanced arrangement of the subdials, fine black scales and gold-tone accents gives the watch a sophisticated appearance that contrasts beautifully with the technical complexity of the 7A48 movement. The case back is clearly marked 7A48-7020 and carries serial number 643363. The white dial remains attractive overall and retains the complex original-style layout that makes this reference particularly distinctive. The acrylic crystal has a visible crack in the area around 12 o’clock. This is clearly visible in the photographs and should be taken into consideration when assessing the condition of the watch. The watch is fitted with a generic leather strap. Water resistance has not been tested and is not guaranteed. Story & Heritage The Seiko 7A48 belongs to one of the most important families in the history of quartz chronographs. Introduced during the 1980s, the 7A-series represented Seiko's sophisticated approach to analog quartz chronograph technology at a time when quartz watchmaking was developing rapidly. The 7A48 expanded upon Seiko's chronograph platform by incorporating additional calendar and moonphase functionality, resulting in unusually complex and visually distinctive watches. This 7A48-7020 combines that technical character with a much more classical aesthetic than many sports-oriented chronographs of the era. Its white multi-register dial, Roman numeral details, gold-tone case and prominent moonphase display give it an elegant, almost traditional appearance despite the advanced quartz technology inside. Today, surviving examples of the 7A48 family are particularly interesting to collectors of vintage Seiko because they represent a fascinating period when the company was pushing the technical possibilities of analog quartz watchmaking. A characterful vintage Seiko combining chronograph functionality, moonphase complication and unmistakable 1980s design. Internal Reference Number - ITM-950
