Seiko - Seikomatic Weekdater - No reserve price - 6206-8990 - Men - 1964

Presented for auction by Second Vintage This classic 1964 Seikomatic Weekdater pairs a highly sought-after dial layout with an exceptionally well-preserved silver sunburst finish. Appreciated by collectors for its distinctive full-day display positioned prominently at six o'clock, this reference combines elegant mid-century geometry with a streamlined profile, made possible by its recessed four o'clock crown. Brand: Seiko Model: Seikomatic Weekdater Reference Number: 6206-8990 Serial Number: 4802224 Movement: Automatic, Caliber 6206A, 26 Jewels Dial: Silver sunburst with day display at 6 o'clock Case Size: 37 mm (excluding the crown) Case Material: Stainless steel Production Year: 1964 Condition: Excellent vintage condition. Timegrapher: +10+12s/day, performing remarkably well. Dial and Hands The silver sunburst dial is exceptionally clean and well-preserved, featuring crisp and intact printing throughout. Applied faceted indices catch the light beautifully, framing the clean day and date windows. The signature full-day display sits prominently at the six o'clock position, giving the watch its balanced and distinctive character. A set of sharp Dauphine style hands sweeps across the dial, displaying clean surfaces with minimal signs of oxidation that perfectly match the excellent condition of the dial. Case and Crystal The polished stainless steel case presents honest vintage wear with well-preserved overall geometry. A smooth polished bezel frames the dial, showing only light hairline scratches. The recessed crown is located at the four o'clock position, sitting flush against the case to create a clean, uninterrupted profile. The case itself exhibits light surface scratches consistent with normal use, and there is some wear and minor pitting visible on the caseback seating edge. A clear domed acrylic crystal protects the dial, displaying no major scratches, cracks, or crazing. Movement Inside the case beats the automatic Seiko caliber 6206A, featuring 26 jewels. The movement displays a striking gold-tone finish across its plates and rotor, maintaining a clean appearance with no obvious signs of corrosion or heavy wear. The engravings reading SEIKO, 26 JEWELS, and 6206A remain sharp and clear. Recording +10+12s/day on the timegrapher, it is exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece. Strap The watch is fitted with a black leather strap detailed with white contrast stitching. The material shows light signs of wear and pairs handsomely with the mid-century aesthetic of the steel case and silver dial. Condition Excellent vintage condition. The dial and hands are exceptionally clean, standing out as a highlight of this example. The stainless steel case retains its pleasing geometry while showing honest age-related wear, including light surface scratches and minor pitting on the caseback seating edge. The gold-tone movement is visually clean and performing very strongly on the timegrapher. Dimensions 37 mm (excluding the crown) Remarks This Seikomatic Weekdater offers a beautifully preserved silver sunburst dial and the highly desirable six o'clock day layout. Combined with its strong mechanical performance and elegant mid-century proportions, it represents a superb opportunity for collectors of classic Japanese watchmaking. History Produced in 1964 and 1965, the Seiko reference 6206-8990 represents an elegant era of mid-century design. The Weekdater series is deeply appreciated by Seiko collectors for its distinct calendar layout, which places the full day display prominently at the six o'clock position rather than the traditional three o'clock aperture. The recessed crown at the four o'clock position was a deliberate design choice meant to highlight that the watch is automatically wound, allowing the case profile to remain perfectly streamlined on the wrist.
