A premium automotive technical poster dedicated to the 1963 Austin Mini Cooper S Mark I — the performance version of the revolutionary original Mini and one of the defining compact sports cars of the 1960s. This artwork presents the Mini Cooper S in a clean factory technical-document style, combining precise front, side, rear and overhead views with dimensional references, mechanical specifications and a detailed representation of the compact transverse engine installation. The Cooper S Developed from Alec Issigonis’ groundbreaking Mini and enhanced through the involvement of John Cooper, the Cooper S transformed the compact economy car into a remarkably capable performance machine. Its lightweight construction, compact dimensions, responsive engine and front-wheel-drive layout created a car that became equally famous on public roads and in international motorsport. The 1963 Mini Cooper S Introduced in 1963, the first Cooper S featured an enlarged and significantly upgraded version of the BMC A-Series engine. The car retained the extraordinarily compact proportions of the standard Mini while receiving performance-oriented mechanical improvements designed to exploit its lightweight chassis and exceptional agility. 1.1-Litre A-Series Engine The early Cooper S is powered by a 1071 cc BMC A-Series inline-four engine mounted transversely at the front. Twin SU carburetors provide the fuel mixture, while the compact transverse installation allows the engine and transmission to occupy remarkably little space. Output was approximately 70 bhp at 6,200 rpm, providing strong performance for a car weighing only around 635 kg. Front-Wheel-Drive Engineering One of the Mini’s most important engineering features was its transverse engine and front-wheel-drive configuration. This highly efficient arrangement allowed most of the vehicle’s overall length to be dedicated to passenger space while maintaining extremely compact exterior dimensions. In the Cooper S, the same architecture became the foundation for a highly responsive performance car. Four-Speed Manual Transmission Power is transmitted through a four-speed manual gearbox to the front wheels. Combined with the Mini’s short wheelbase, low weight and compact footprint, the drivetrain gives the Cooper S the agile character that made the model famous in both road and competition use. Technical Dimensions Wheelbase: 2036 mm Front track: 1207 mm Rear track: 1168 mm Overall length: 3054 mm Overall width: 1410 mm Overall height: 1346 mm These exceptionally compact dimensions illustrate just how small the original Mini was while highlighting the packaging efficiency that made its design so influential. Performance The 1071 cc inline-four produces approximately 70 bhp at 6,200 rpm. With an unladen weight of approximately 635 kg and a top speed of around 150 km/h, the Cooper S relied on low mass, responsive handling and efficient packaging rather than outright engine capacity. Detailed Technical Composition The artwork includes true front and rear elevations, a large 90-degree orthographic side profile, an overhead technical view with exposed engine detail, dimensional measurements, engine specifications, transmission and weight information, performance data and a period-inspired BMC engineering inspection stamp. The warm ivory background, restrained black technical linework and structured typography recreate the appearance of an archival British engineering document while maintaining the unmistakable proportions of the original Mini.
