A premium automotive poster dedicated to the 1981 DeLorean DMC-12 — one of the most distinctive sports cars of the 1980s, defined by its stainless-steel bodywork, dramatic gullwing doors and unmistakable wedge-shaped design. This artwork celebrates the 1981 DeLorean DMC-12 in its iconic brushed stainless-steel finish, combining the car’s futuristic appearance with a carefully structured technical presentation. The composition features a large three-quarter illustration accompanied by front, rear, side and top views, a detailed PRV V6 engine study, a driver-focused cockpit illustration and clearly arranged mechanical specifications. A Design Unlike Anything Else The DeLorean DMC-12 was conceived as a sports car with a visual identity unlike conventional production vehicles of its era. Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, its low wedge-shaped profile, sharp geometric surfaces and dramatic gullwing doors created an unmistakably futuristic appearance. Rather than using conventional painted exterior panels, the DMC-12 became famous for its exposed brushed stainless-steel bodywork, giving the car a unique metallic appearance that remains immediately recognizable decades later. The 1981 DMC-12 Production of the DMC-12 began in 1981. Beneath its radical exterior, the car used a rear-mounted V6 engine, rear-wheel drive and a chassis engineered around a distinctive fiberglass underbody structure. The combination of unusual construction, stainless-steel panels and gullwing doors made the DMC-12 one of the most unconventional production cars of its generation. 2.85-Litre PRV V6 Mounted at the rear is a 2.85-litre naturally aspirated PRV V6 engine developed through the Peugeot-Renault-Volvo collaboration. In the North American specification represented here, the engine produced approximately 130 hp and delivered its power to the rear wheels. The detailed engine illustration positioned at the bottom of the artwork highlights the compact V6 architecture and mechanical components of the rear-mounted powertrain. Five-Speed Manual Transmission The illustrated DMC-12 features the five-speed manual transmission, delivering power exclusively to the rear wheels. Combined with the rear-mounted engine, this drivetrain gave the DeLorean a distinctive mechanical layout that complemented its unconventional exterior design. Brushed Stainless-Steel Body Perhaps the most recognizable feature of the DMC-12 is its unpainted stainless-steel exterior. The brushed metal panels give the body a raw industrial character while emphasizing the sharp lines and geometric proportions of Giugiaro’s original design. Black bumpers, side trim, louvered rear bodywork and turbine-style wheels provide strong visual contrast against the exposed stainless-steel surfaces. Iconic Gullwing Doors The roof-hinged gullwing doors became one of the defining features of the DeLorean. Opening upward rather than outward, they contributed significantly to the car’s futuristic identity while creating one of the most memorable silhouettes of any production automobile from the period. Driver-Focused Cockpit Inside, the DMC-12 presents a distinctly early-1980s interpretation of a sports-car interior. The driver faces a compact instrument cluster, while the angular dashboard, center console and manual gear lever reflect the geometric styling of the exterior. The cockpit illustration included in the artwork captures the distinctive atmosphere of the original DeLorean interior. Detailed Illustrated Composition The artwork includes: Large three-quarter illustration of the 1981 DeLorean DMC-12 Iconic brushed stainless-steel exterior Detailed front and rear technical views Accurate side-profile presentation Overhead technical view Detailed 2.85-litre PRV V6 engine illustration Period-inspired driver’s cockpit Distinctive gullwing-door architecture Louvered rear bodywork Classic turbine-style wheel design Rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive configuration Clearly arranged engine, power, drivetrain, transmission and top-speed specifications Vintage technical typography and archival-inspired presentation The warm ivory background, brushed metallic bodywork and precise monochrome technical illustrations create a refined retro-industrial aesthetic. The large central vehicle remains the visual focus while the surrounding drawings explore the engineering and design details behind one of the most distinctive cars of the 1980s.
