The Union Jack is one of the most famous flags in the world. It is not only the national symbol of Great Britain, but also a pop culture icon. Its history begins in 1606, when the first version of the flag was created - a combination of the red English St. George's Cross on a white background and the white Scottish St. Andrew's Cross on a blue background. In 1801, Ireland was incorporated into the United Kingdom, whereupon the red St. Andrew's cross of St. Patrick was added. This pair of cufflinks features the Union Jack in coloured enamel on its four similarly designed oval sides. The flag flies dynamically in the wind on a yellow mast. Short chains connect the display sides and make it easy to put on the bright silver accessories. Cufflinks with flags and banners are produced in a very similar way over a long period of time. The basic design of the buttons dates back to the interwar period. The cufflinks were probably made shortly before or around the middle of the 20th century. The well-preserved buttons found their way to us from London.
