Silver, vermeil - Brooch - Lapel buttons - Scallop shell

Cartier – Two lapel buttons ‘Scallop Shell’ in vermeil and ruby – circa 1950 Rare set of two Cartier Paris lapel buttons made for the Shell company, featuring a scallop shell, the traditional symbol of the pilgrimage to Saint-James-de-Compostelle. Made in vermeil (gold-plated silver), they were offered by Shell to its employees to reward their longevity: the first bears the inscription ‘10 ANS’, while the second, ‘15 ANS’, is set with a ruby. This distinction system is documented: 10 years without stone, 15 years with ruby, The two pieces are signed Cartier Paris on the reverse and bear control marks for silver. One of the buttons is kept in its Cartier Paris – London – New York case. French workmanship, Cartier for Shell, circa 1950. Vermeil (gold-plated silver); ruby for the 15-year model. Photos are an integral part of the description of the objects and complement their presentation.
