Antique siphons from the international MICHELIN Bibendum brand in amber color. Enjoy the photographs to appreciate the beauty of these siphons; they feature blue taps or heads bearing the brands Carbónicas Espumosos Oderiz Pamplona and Espumosos Carbónicas Colón Palencia—the most sought after—a beauty with many years of age, in good condition for collectors and decoration. Seltzer water. They may have slight scuffs or small glass flaws. MICHELIN: SCA Compagnie Générale des Établissements Michelin is a French company specializing in the manufacture of tires, founded by Édouard Michelin and André Michelin on May 28, 1889, developed for bicycle tires. Its headquarters are located in Clermont-Ferrand, capital of the Puy-de-Dôme department, in the geographic center of France. Together with Bridgestone, it is one of the largest tire manufacturers in the world. The company participates in various motor sports categories, mainly in the MotoGP World Championship and the World Rally Championship. History In 1889, brothers Édouard and André Michelin ran a rubber factory in Clermont-Ferrand, France. One day, a cyclist whose pneumatic tire needed repair appeared at the factory; it was stuck on the edge and took more than three hours to remove and repair, after which it had to be left overnight to dry. The next day, Édouard Michelin took the repaired bicycle to the factory yard to test it. After a few hundred meters, the tire failed. Despite the setback, Édouard was excited about the pneumatic tire, so he and his brother worked on creating their own version, one that did not need to be glued to the rim. Michelin was established on May 28, 1889, and in 1891 they filed their first patent for a detachable tire that was used by Charles Terront to win the world's first long-distance cycling race: the Paris–Brest–Paris of 1891. The company mascot is called "Bibendum," a white character formed by tires. This 'tire man' was created in 1895, three years after the automobile was born. The bulky shape of this friendly figure has led to the term michelines to refer to excess fat around the waist in Spain, Brazil, and Chile. In the rest of Hispanic America they are called tires or tubes. Bibendum was designed by Marius Rossillon, known by his pseudonym O'Galop (1867–1946). His life and the creation of the character: The origin of the idea: In 1894, during the Universal Exposition in Lyon, the Michelin brothers André and Édouard noticed that a pile of tires on their stand, with a bit of imagination, looked like the body of a man without arms. The creative encounter: In 1898, O'Galop showed André Michelin a one-time rejected advertising sketch from a Munich brewery. In that original sketch appeared a fat king lifting a beer stein under Horace's Latin phrase: 'Nunc est bibendum' (Now is the time to drink). The birth of the icon: André Michelin envisioned replacing the king with a character made of tires who would 'drink' the potholes of the road. O'Galop redesigned the sketch, adding round glasses (a nod to André Michelin himself), giving rise to the official 1898 poster. Career: In addition to working for Michelin until the 1910s, O'Galop was a prolific contributor to French satirical magazines of the time such as Le Rire and L'Assiette au Beurre. Subsequently, he became one of the early pioneers of animation cinema in France, creating numerous animated shorts between 1910 and 1920 before passing away in 1946.
