SN - Voyage de leurs Majestés l'Empereur et l'Impératrice...

Fascinating illustrated edition of this historical testimony devoted to the official journey of Napoleon III and Empress Eugénie across two major western regions of France, Normandy and Brittany, under the Second Empire - Devoid of an author’s name in the bibliographic entry, this publication sits in the tradition of imperial travel narratives, designed to recount the stages of a sovereign’s journey, present the towns visited, highlight the monuments and local activities, and emphasize the displays of loyalty organized in honor of the imperial couple - Beyond the account of the journey proper, the work allows one to grasp how Napoleon III’s power sought to strengthen ties with provincial populations, to publicize the regime’s achievements and to give a unified representation of the French nation - SN - Voyage of Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress in the Departments of the West (Normandy and Brittany) - 1858 - Firmin Didot frères, fils & Cie - 66 Pages. Good condition of the binding, the work in its original half‑leather binding, wear from use, some minor defects on the cover, heads and corners worn, foxing on the edges, speckled edges, spine gilt with decorative fillets, title and date gilded - Good internal condition, browning, text in three columns, work enriched with fine black engravings in the text and on plates, marbled endpapers in reasonable condition, a pleasant copy - Delivery service provided within a few days -
